What's mentioned here is for an earlier version (note the post is from 2004).
You can uninstall it with this instead:
msiexec /x {A44413DC-17D5-4F0B-A128-8B590B20323C}
In most cases, throwing away Windows Messenger and using Windows Live Messenger
(
http://get.live.com/messenger/overview) will solve the issue you're experiencing however.
