XP SP3
Just installed my first DVD +/- RW drive (Philips SPD6005BD) and am
encountering what I think are fairly standard DVD issues but I don't
know the answers.

1 - Many DVD's refuse to play because of "copy protecton" issues and
tell me to update my video hardware drivers
2 - Those that do play, (non commercial ones) play without sound.

Audio CD's play fine so the hardware is obviously connected to my
onboard sound okay.
I can install software provided on a DVD disc.

The device shows in Device Manager as Philips SPD6005T and the driver is
shown as Microsoft, 1/7/2001, 5.1.2535.0, signed by Microsoft Digital
Publisher

I can't make much sense of the DVD troubleshooter and am wary about
updating a video card driver via Windows update site. All advice welcome
please.
