Hi Thunderbird

I read the EE thread you referenced. You For the "default mail client is
not properly installed" error, see MVP Ramesh's page here:

Even if you're not now getting those symptoms, it would be worth
checking the settings.

I do suspect McAfee may be interfering with Thunderbird. Have you tried
disabling its email protection? I don't remember seeing a mention of
that in the thread.
