The first part of your post makes no sense to me since you appear to be using
the web-based interface and I'm using a newsreader (OE).

In the latter part of your post you define how you're opening a text file.The
procedure you're using to edit a text file is quite abnormal.

Maybe you're not dealing with text files. Make sure that your Folder Options are
set to allow to view file extensions. In Windows Explorer it should be shown
with the TXT extension similar to this: anyfilename.txt.

Normally, all one has to do is to double-click on the text file and it will
launch Notepad and open the file for editing. If okay, try double clicking on
the text file. If it doesn't open normally, post back with a description of its
behavior.
