Continuous Reboot after automatic updates

On June 14, my WIN XP Professional began automatic updates and since
then I have not been able to use my laptop.

The blue screen message is:

STOP: c0000221 {Bad Image checksum}
The image wininet.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not
match the computed checksum.

I tried to recover using the WIN XP CD once all other options did not
work (Safe mode, etc.). However, I get this error:

*** STOP: 0x000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF76450BF, 0xF7A91208, 0xF7A90F08)

*** pci.sys-Address F76450BF base at F763E000, DateStamp 3b7d855c

I just got a hard drive enclosure today so I have access to the hard
drive as well as the windows update text file (although I have no idea
what any of it means).

Does anyone have any advise as to something I can do manually to remedy
this situation, given the error messages above? I'd be happy to copy the
log but even the 6/14 portion is pretty lengthy.

I'm hoping to avoid having to put my system back to OEM status.

Thanks,
Terry
