Instead of using the web site interface to access the newsgroups, set up
Outlook Express to do it. Open OE, click on Tools, Accounts, Add News
account. This brings up a wizard. When it asks for an email address, make
one up (i.e.,
nobody@nowhere.net) or you will drown in spam if your real one
is used. For the server name, use: msnews.microsoft.com
Once the account is set up, click the close button and it will ask if you
want to download newsgroups--say yes. Once downloaded, subscribe to those
groups that you want to follow. There are foreign language newsgroups so
stick with the ones that start with: microsoft.public and are NOT followed
by a two digit entry (i.e., jp, kr , etc). For example, you do not want to
subscribe to: microsoft.public.jp.windowsxp unless you speak Japanese.
Regarding your Notepad problem: Are you sure it is Notepad that is opening?
There is no entry called View Source on the right click context menu of an
unaltered Notepad program.
