Re: spoolss.dll
what operating system?

there's a discussion on this in msdn.

The system file checker should restore the correct version, just
type sfc /scannow at the command line.

Many thanks for the tip. Running sfc.exe has
eliminated that error message. Unfortunately, I now get a message
annnouncing that entry point LoadDriverWithVersion in spoolss.dll is not
found. It seems to occur only once during startup. Does that ring a bell for
anyone?

One word: Restore - Go back to the system before your
dll got hosed.

Thank you for the reply. Do I assume
correctly, that you suggest using the System Recovery Facility? Win2000 does
not have it.

I have several uncorrupted backup sets, but
the Windows File Protection, that allowed shlwapi.dll to be corrupted, will
not let me replace it with an intact copy.

A System Recovery Facility would undoubtedly
replace far too much anyway. As a matter of fact, the System File Checker
(sfc.exe) has done so. It did replace shlwapi.dll, as the error message no
longer appears. But now I get the message
The Entry point LoadDriveWithVersion was
not found in spoolss.dll
and Windows also no longer recognizes my
printer/scanner.

SFC doesn't communicate with the user and
unfortunately does not ask for confirmation before making changes.

Reintallation of my printer software does not
run to completion. I now get a message saying that Windows Installer is not
correctly installed! I should contact my "Support Personell". Very funny!
