Lost Links

I have lost the links between many of the desktop web icons and 'favorites'
icon, and cannot click and link to websites that are embedded in Outlook
Express Emails.

My OS is Windows XP Home + SP 2. IE is version 7 and Outlook Express is
vesrion 6.

Is there a fix for this problem or must I reinstall the OS?

I posted this question on 04/14/08 and received an Email on 4/15/08 from
notifyMS@microsoft.com stating that a Microsoft community menber had replied
to the question. However, as stated above, nothing happens when I try to
click on "Read and rate the response" or if I copy the link and try to open
the link directly in my browser, nor can I find my original post.

Can you please help me find the original post and the reply?

First, make sure the system malware free by Going through these cleaning
steps:
1... Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs
| Advanced .

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called
[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on
[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [
Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one
later and see which is the culprit .

Scan for viruses with an up2date Anti-virus software (full scan).

You receive an error message when you click a hyperlink in Outlook

Open a NotePad and copy and Paste the following commands and Save As
links.bat on your Desktop, then double click the icon to execute and click
Yes to register the DLLs then Reboot your machine and see if you are able to
open any links:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

Thank you Nass, but unfortunately that didn't fix the problem.

When I was registering the .dlls everything except mshtml.dll loaded. For
that dll I got the following message:
mshtml.dll was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
The file cannot be registered.

Do you have any more suggestions?

download the Winsock from here:
http://www.nasstec.co.uk/downloads/winsockfix.exe

Run this command:
sfc /scannow click [OK] you may need your XP CD installation media handy to
insert if been asked to do so!.

Thank you for your help Nass. I reinstalled Windows XP and that resolved all
of my difficulties.
