2 Laptop issues
I know I just posted a problem but I figured I might as well get help on
these issues as well. I'm been neglecting my laptops issues until now and I
figure I should ask just in case someone knows the solution right off.
Otherwise I'd have to figure it out the hard way.

1) My laptop (I'm on right now) will not recognize any type of external
device (USB, CD, anything) unless it is already in the laptop before it's
turned on. So for instance, if I want to watch something, I have to turn the
laptop on, put the CD in, turn it back off and then back on.

It will recognize an Ethernet cord but that's about it. Even a camera SD
card won't show up unless I restart. Also I notice that my disc drive is
named DVD-RAM (E Is that strange that it's RAM instead of ROM? Just making
sure.

I also used to be able to burn CDs on this computer but now that isn't
working now.

2) My friend brought her computer over (I'm a beginning/moderate tech,
believe it or not) for me to help her with yesterday. Basically, none of her
programs open normally. For some, I click on the icon and it asks "What
program would you like to open this file in?" as if I'm trying to open a file
and not a program. I then click on the program I was trying to open (and btw,
the option to always remember the setting is grayed out) and it comes right
up. But the extra step is pretty annoying.

Then there are some that just won't come up. It just says "access denied".
She said Zango got on her computer somehow so I'm just wanted to know if you
all think removing the spyware will remedy this or if you think it's
something else. Thanks again!

Hi

On both computers as it has been mentioned you need to get rid of all
malware as it may be at the root of your issues. Have you tried an online
scanner?
Regarding the DVD-RAM drive...the name is correct. This type of drives lets
you write to and erase DVD-RAM disks.
