can't find network card
Now and again, say once a month, Windows (XP SE) fails to find my network
card. In order to make it do so, a "cold" reboot is necessary. Pushing the
reset button alone won't achieve it. Is this normal or does it mean that
there is something seriously wrong either with my network card or XP.

No, this isn't normal. However, it's not possible for me to guess where the
issue lies except that if the failure is random it is probably caused by
hardware and not software (Windows). The next time it happens, make a note
of what you are running/doing. If you can narrow it down to "this always
happens when I run x program and do x", then you have a software-related
answer and start troubleshooting there.

If you're doing different things when it happens, start by doing the easiest
thing which is to uninstall your network adapter (NIC) and swap it out for
a known-working one. Since NICs are cheap - under $20 - that's a quick and
easy test.

Re: can't find network card
most unusual.

might make sure you have the latest drivers from the manufacturers web site.

could be some strange interaction with another program or driver.

try tracking what you were doing/using about the time it fails.
