NET framework 2.00 service pack 1
I have this large (186.00 mb) program. I don't understand. I thought I was
running Windows XP home edition with service pack 2. This seems to be a
developer's tool to write applications? As a home, family user what programs
might this be supporting? Can I locate when it was installed? Could it have
been mistakenly downloaded with a Windows update? Can I remove it? Thanks
alot!

Hi Viv , although you have XP withSP2 , some programs need the
..NetFramework to run . I have 1 thru 3 running on my system .

Viv:

The various versions of .Net contain routines which developers may use in
their programs. If, for example, you are using Turbo Tax, and do not have
..Net V2.0 installed, the installer for Turbo Tax will install V2 because
..Net has functionality that Turbo Tax needs.

..Net framework is not part of the XP distribution. It is rather easy to
mistake a .Net SP2 from XP SP2, but they share nothing but the name.

You can remove whatever parts of .Net as you wish; it is optional. But, be
aware that sometime some program that expects your system to
have .Net installed will come along.

As for when it was installed, the date would be in your update history.
