Un-installing Quick Time components
Hi !
Windows Xp Pro + SP2 and all updates

Maybe not for this newsgroup but could someone please help

I am trying to install a copy of Power Director 6 Deluxe on a desktop
All goes fine until the installer finds and wants to un-install QuickTime
6.5 and wants to install QT 7
It says unable to uninstall
I then went to add/remove and uninstalled QT
Re-booted and tried to install again, getting the same message as before
How can I un-install all of QT's components
Too scared to scratch in the registry
Have also used Advanced Un-installer Pro 7, amongst other s
Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I will just have to reinstall PD 5
again as well as QT 6.5

Mike,

You might solve your problem by installing the Windows Instaaller 3.1:
http://tinyurl.com/9cg2y It helped solve a similar problem with Adobe
Acrobat uninstall failure for me.

After updating Windows Installer he could just try installing Quicktime
first, then his application program and see if that works.

Re: Un-installing Quick Time components
Hi !
Problem solved with Charles's suggestion
What makes Windows Installer 3.1 different to the original installer?
Thanks again

When they create the software installers they assume that you already have
the latest version installed. MS's backward compatibility philosophy does
not apply to installing software. You now are less likely to have problems
installing other Windows Installer-based software such as .NET Framework
updates.
