Excel
My old laptop ran XP but has gone to the big laptop angel in the sky - ie
bust !!
I have a new laptop running Vista with Microsoft Office included ( I paid
for it !)
I have transferred some spread sheets from a CD back up disk but they will
not open .The back up is originally from my desktop which ran ME.They went
onto XP ok.
The message says Cannot open .xls file ???
Any step by step explanation to solve the problem would be appreciated

Re: Excel
You are saying that when you open Excel first and then go to file/open the
file can not open the .xls file, correct?

Or, are you trying to open the .xls file by double clicking on it in
Explorer or My Computer?

Re: Excel
Have you verified that Office/Excel is actually installed on the new laptop,
does Excel open if you try to run it? What version of Office on the old &
new laptop?
