Error message opening excel after using Vista
Howdy. I opened up our companies excel worksheet that has our IP addresses
in it. well after checking it out (i'm using Vista SP1) no one is able to
open it anymore. It says it may be marked read only or the server may not be
up neither of which is the case. Any ideas what's going on and if I can fix
it without resorting to my backup system? thanks.

We presume you have located the worksheet file. Copy it
elsewhere and work on the copy, not the original.

1. If Vista caused your problem, you are likely to find
the solution in a Vista newsgroup. (But there are usually
several different ways to kill any particular cat.)
2. If you merely want to know your IP addresses,
IPCONFIG will tell you. If you want to alter your IP
addresses, you will get better advice in a networking NG.
3. Having copied your source file, what is its filetype?
A multitude of apps can read and display (if not change)
data in files of type XLS, XML and so on. If in doubt,
post again in a newsgroup of the right sort.

Thanks Don. I'll check out a Vista group; not sure what I was thinking.
probably because it was created on an XP station. Thanks!

Could it be that you've got Office 2007 on your machine, you saved the
spreadsheet when you closed it, and this converted it to the Office 2007
format with a .xlsx extension, which your other machines with Office 2003 or
before can't open? Just a thought...
