Remove Processes

Going to Task Manager I see some processes that should not be running on my
computer. How can I disable/remove them so that they do not run again?
"End Process" will not really help as they will return on the next restart.
I have gone to the startup file on 'msconfig' but many of those on Task
Manager are simply not there. Would appreciate the help.

I'm using Startup Inspector for Windows. there is a check mark for each start
up. Clicking Consult on the Toolbar gives information on the each startups
and the Apply to effect the changes.

Try Autoruns from the MS Windows SysInternals site:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys.../Autoruns.mspx

AutoRuns will show/list all apps/etc. that load/run when you first boot
(Boot Execute tab),
when you logon (Logon tab) and other programs that load (grouped by labeled
tabs) for easy viewing.

It also provides the ability to selectively allows you to stop (use with
care) any program that you don't want to load. You can undo any changes you
have made.

Note: To get additional details on an item in the list you may need to
highlight the item (right click) and use the 'Search Online' option to get
the details, especially useful for the more obscure items in the list.

try Start/Run/MSCONFIG
The start-up tab at far right will give you all the processes that start
automatically at each start-up.

Disable the programs you do not want starting each time and that should fix
the issue.

It does show an incomplete list, but typically, if you recognize it doesn't
belong in task manager, it will appear in MSconfig, if not.... it is worth a
try...

Autoruns is a better, more modern and safer tool to use.

A safer way than msconfig to remove unwanted start up items is to use
Autoruns.

With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from starting,
or you can can right click an item and then delete it. If you uncheck
you can recheck to re-enable the item. It is a much safer approach than
editing the Registry. Another useful feature of the programme is that
you can right click an item and select Search Online to get information
about the item selected.
