What version of Windows Media Player do I have?
My Windows Media Player got updated by some process I do not
understand. Now I need to know what version I have. There is no
"help" choice onthe menu bar leading me to an "About" option, so I
cannot tell what version I have through the usual means.
Can anyone suggest how I might locate the version? Thanks in advance.

RE: What version of Windows Media Player do I have?
I would assume you will have WMP 11.
A sure way to find out:
Open your Control Panel, look for "Add and remove software".
Doublec lick this Icon and you will see a list of programs installed.
Scrolling through it should answer your question as Windows XP comes with
default WMP 9.
So if you installed WMP 10 or 11 they are listed as installed within this
list.

Right click on the toolbar next to where you see Now Playing.
You should be able to check Classic Menus or select Help -> About Windows Media
Player from the menu that pops out.
An alternative is to search for wmplayer.exe on your computer. It should be
located in this folder,
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player
When you locate it, right click on the file and select Properties from the menu.
Click on the Version tab. The latest version is 11.0. Version 9.0 is what was
originally installed with XP.
Note: Any update of Windows Media Player should show up in Control Panel -> Add
or Remove Programs. If you need to restore an earlier version, remove the
upgrade.
Good luck

Thank you very much. Both techniques that were recommended work
perfectly. I have 11.

RE: What version of Windows Media Player do I have?
This is an easy fix. simply open up Windows Media Player in the black field
next to now playing right click and select show classic menus. This will
bring up file, edit, view, and help. Go to help then about. Let me know if
this works.

Re: What version of Windows Media Player do I have?
Hey Gary,
if you right click Windows Media Player in your programs
list and go to Properties it should display the version there. Hope that
works, good luck.

Dane/Toshiba - By "programs list" do you mean to locate the executable in
Windows Explorer and right-click that? I immediately assumed that you meant
the shortcut on the Start Menu, which doesn't work for me - does it for you?
