How to open DOCX extension?

These are text files from MS site.
I have MS Works 8 but they won't open in the Works word processor. Tried
Wordpad but just get garbled text.
Advice appreciated.

Don't know if it will help MS Works.

You could also download the Word 2007 Viewer. It should handle .docx
files.

Hmm, according to Microsoft's article:

You still have to install the compatibility pack after installing the
viewer.
