Dual Core CPU
I think my system is screwed up. I have a dual core CPU but when I look at
CPU Usage in Task Manager I only see 1 panel.

In device manager I do have 2 processors listed but under Computer I only
have 1, an ACPI PC. I seem to recall when it was working that I had 2 ACPI
PCs listed here.

I suspected I had a problem when I tried to start a previous configuration
of VMWare Server to run Ubuntu. I had that configured to use 2 processors
but when I tried to get it going, it complained that it only found 1
processor and refused to start.

How do I determine for sure if I have 1 or both cores working? If only 1,
how do I get the other core working?

I have XP Pro SP2.

Thanks,
Tony

RE: Dual Core CPU
One ACPI PC is normal. You should see two Processors under Device Manager,
and in the Task Manager, on the Performance tab, see two processors.

Under Computer, it should show as ACPI Multiprocessor PC. If it
doesn't, the HAL is set up for a single processor, and XP will only
use one core.

Re: Dual Core CPU
How do I change it to be the ACPI Multiprocessor PC from ACPI PC? I cannot
find an option to make a change.

Also I now have a 2nd device listed under Computer. Standard PC but with a
red X through the bullet. Do I need to delete that device?

Re: Dual Core CPU
You can't change it. If its not showing up correctly, you'll have to do a
new installation. You can try an in-place upgrade, but..............
