dvd/cd burner
I just got a new machine and am running XP pro. I tied to install office, but
I put in the disk and nothing. i searched for help and opened my computer,
clicked on the writer and turned on autoplay. Put disk back in and now it
spins, but doesn't come up into install mode. Using Windows explorer I can do
this manually. My 2000 machine never did this, just came up and played. Any
suggestions?
Thanks,

1. If you bought this PC new with XP installed, you
can call the vendor directly for advice.
-- The autoplay feature is set on/off in the OS configuration.
-- The OS may have been configured so that only the Administrator
can add software (not the User as you logged in.)
2. Display your Office CD contents (in My Computer)
to verify that the CD drive is reading the disk OK. If you
see there any file with the strings AUTORUN or SETUP,
double click on it to see if this begins the software
instal routine.

Re: dvd/cd burner
Yes, I can see the drive, and the name of the disk inserted. I can go there
and find the setup.exe or .ini and run it. Everything installs fine, the disk
just doesn't start up by itself.
Thanks.

I am new to XP and do not know where the event viewer is located. Will be
happy to look if directed to it.
Thanks,

Re: dvd/cd burner
I will try this tonite. Last nite Dell support told me autorun does not
automatically start a Cd that has an autorun.inf file, the CD was working
properly, and any other questions should be directed to Microsoft. Basically
told me this was a software issue, XP does not provide an autorun function
except for playing music cd's.

Re: dvd/cd burner
Peter,
I have tried a lot of regedits to make sure autorun is turned on.
Here are some of the errors.sorry I couldn't copy thm.
There are a lot of crypt32 errors. There are 2 DCOM errors.
There are a lot of service control manager errors
There is a W32time error and a MRXSM.
There are numbers associated with these. Most crypt32 errors were an 8.

Re: dvd/cd burner
None of these errors are associated with your DVD\CD burner. See if the below KB's will help
