Apps crash during Save As

I recently bought a refurbished computer with XP Pro installed. Besides IE,
Firefox, Adobe Reader and OpenOffice there are no other apps installed. In
OpenOffice if I select Save As, the app crashes. The same thing happens in IE
and Firefox. It seems like too much of a coincidence to be an app problem.
Does this sound like the beginnings of a corrupted OS?

Likely. Why put up with anyone else's problems and issues? Do the
smart thing and do a clean install of everything; start from a clean
slate you the problems you do get are at least your own. Who knows that
malware lurks on that machine?
