Offline Folders Synchronisation
One of our client’s is currently having issues with Offline folder
synchronisation. I would like to request information on the process of
synchronisation. I will detail below how it is set up and what the problems
are;
The client has a laptop which is on our organisations network and has
specified that they do not want their laptop to synchronise when they logon
or logoff. The reason for this being that when they take their laptop home
and attempt to logon to their home network, the synchronisation process takes
a fair amount of time as it thinks they are trying to logon to the work
environment.
The synchronisation process is therefore set to manual now. When the client
logs on to the work network now, they cannot access network folders but they
can access the internet. I have deduced that this is because synchronisation
is required before network access will be granted. The client is satisfied
with this, but says that every so often the network will drop out and they
are forced to manually synchronise again. Is there a time setting that
forces the client to re-synchronise every so often?
What I would like a formal explanation of how synchronisation works, what
steps are involved to maintain network connectivity and the limitations of
the system. This information will then be taken to the client to explain to
them about the process of synchronisation. If you have any further
questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
