Automatically files getting deleted from c drive
We are facing a strange problem of file deletion at my site. The files are
automatically getting deleted on the workstations. All the files and folders
in the logical drives and also on the desktop disappears. The files are
neither found in the recycle bin, only some files could be recovered when we
run the "Stellar Data recovery software".

We are using Trend Micro AV and no virus signatures were detected.

We have also scanned the systems through McAfee and Symantec with no results.
All these systems are updated with the latest MS patches.

Please let me know if anyone of you have come across such problem at your
site.

RE: Automatically files getting deleted from c drive
Been unanswered for a while, so...

First thing I'd suspect is a failing disk. Unlikely if it's multiple
computers though.

Other than that, possibilities are malware or a disgruntled user.

I'd suggest that you initial line of defence be to turn on auditing if
available. You could also setup NTFS permissions that prevent files being
deleted once they've been created. Any file deletions on the server would
then have to be referred to a supervisor.
