No recording controls in USB Audio Codec

First off, I'm not sure if this is a Windows issue, a driver issue, or
an issue with the software I am using. I have tried tech support for
my software and gotten no reply, and I have not found this issue
searching Microsoft Support or Google Groups, so I am trying to see if
someone here has any experience with this issue.

I recently purchased an AudioTechnica turntable and have just started
using my Cakewalk Pyro software which came with it to record from some
of my old vinyl for transfer to CD. My problem is that when I go into
Windows Mixer to adjust the volume input level, there are no Recording
volume controls under the USB Audio codec, only playback controls. I
have found no way to add volume controls to the codec. I can still
record OK, but I have no way to adjust the input level this way. How
do I set up the mixer to have these controls?

Check to see if you are configured properly.

1. Open Control Panel
2. Click open "Sounds Speech, and Audio Devices"
3. Click on "Sounds and Audio Devices"
4. Click "Audio" Tab
5. Check to see that the default device for Sound Playback is set to the
device hooked up to your speakers. It should be something that isn't USB
Audio Codec which is the turn table.
6. The default Recording Device should be set to USB Audio Codec.
Click "Volume" under the recording settings and basic record mix
controls are available.

Audacity is free. I find this works better then most with usb turntable
as input device.

I am using the Ion USBTT10 turntable. It can connect to computers by
usb or conventional phono connection to stereo amp. Some of the
nomenclature may be different but the concepts are the same.

If available you could also try downloading an updated usb audio codec.
But, I would hold off until you've checked your configuration and
installed a copy of Audacity.

Problem is, when USB Audio Codec is selected under default recording
device, the Volume button is disabled. I can't get access to any mixer
controls.

Audacity came with my turntable too, maybe I will give it a shot,
although
I figure the situation will be the same no matter what software I use.

I'll look on MS Support and see if there is an updated codec
available.
