"My Documents" icon gone?
hi there, xp pro with sp3 deployed for plenty of days, it run so smooth
until yesterday, i can't remember what other action triggered it, all in
a sudden "my documents" icon gone from desktop, i tried display
properties > desktop items to make sure "my documents" checkbox is
ticked, i tried unticked & re-ticked it, didn't help

on the other hand, if i opened notepad or wordpad, i can't find "my
documents" folder as well, however there is a folder without name which
should be "my documents" as i can verify the contents there to make sure

any suggestion to fix it? many thx!

Start Windows Explorer to see if it can see the "My Documents" folder.
You should be able to use it to open the folder without name to verify
the contents.

Re: "My Documents" icon gone?
hi vastmasd, from windows explorer left hand side "folders" column, i
couldn't find "my documents" there, the folder structure there as follows:

desktop
|- my computer
|- my network places
|- recycle bin
|- other existing folders on desktop

Hi leemutpo,

When you mentioned that Wordpad and Notepad couldn't find it I crossed
my fingers but now I hope you have a backup.

I always partition my Windows computer.
I allocate 10GB to my C: drive and move "My Documents" to D: drive and
also save any downloads on D: drive.

When I have to re-install Windows I don't lose "My Documents" or
"downloads" because they are on D:

Re: "My Documents" icon gone?
thx all for providing tips & suggestions, finally it was fixed by
running "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll" & reboot, it works like a charm!
