Failed SP3 Upgrade may have resulted in BSOD "PQV2i.sys Page Faul
Running Win XP Home w SP2 and ZoneAlarm Firewall and Security on Fujitsu C
series Laptop.

Casually attempted to upgrade SP2 with SP3 download and it failed. Laptop
seemed ok in spite of warning that XP might not work right.

Continued to work with Googgle's Picasso arranging pictures from Camera
onto external hard drive.

Attempted to set up Web Album on Picasso via net when system crashed.

Reboot(s) results in consistent BSOD stating that windows had shut down to
protect my computer. Problem said to be PQV2i.sys causing a
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONEPAGED_AREA.

Unable to restart in any mode (safe, etc), BSOD in each case.

Technical Info (Always the same)
***STOP: 0x00000050 ( oxE etc, ox00etc 0xF868 etc, 0x000 etc)
***PQV2i.sys: Address F868E444 base at F8685000, date stamp etc.

Restored C drive from external drive using Norton Ghost, same result.

Attempted to use Win XP Professional Installation Disc recovery console
feature, but unable to log in to C: Windows cause I can't remember my login
password.

Reading Posts on this forum reminded me the PQV2i.sys is associated with
Norton Ghost - I will try their support before I spend $60 for MS support.

Am afraid I may have to install Win XP pro on C drive and loose a ton of
applications. Any suggestions.

If I had gotten this far, I would be ready to start all over. Others may
have alternatives.
You might try a restore to a time before you started the update.
One question, though: Did you disable ZA before you started the upgrade?
Attempts to install SP3 tend to fail because some AV software is keeping
the upgrade from making changes to the registry.

> Jim, I tried restoring from the Norton Recovery Disc to no avail. I may have picked a restoral date and time that incorporated the fault. I ordered the SP3 upgrade disk and I will make sure that ZA is turned off when I upgrade. I was able to recover with a Fujitsu recovery disc that came with my laptop. (Thank the lord I didn't have to re-install XP) And thank you Jim for taking the time to respond to my post!
