Icon Transparent Icons

Hiya folks!

I promise that I have tried everything in this forum, and this is
really frustrating me! I cant seem to get my desktop icons to have a
transparent background! Here is what I tried:

1. Tried enabling and disabling Active Desktop.
2. Tried the drop shadow setting in performance settings window.
3. The image I have in the background is a jpg image.
4. When I try the default Windows XP theme, the icons are also not
appearing with transparent backgrounds.

I think something is wrong with some hidden settings but I cant seem to
figure it out!

Any advice? (I am comfortable working with registry and advanced
features as long as a good step by step instructions are provided!)

Thank you!

Right click on an open spot on your Desktop.
From the menu that pops out, look under "Arrange Icons By" and make sure "Lock
Web Items on Desktop" is not checked.
If it is, click on it to remove the check mark.

If that doesn't help, check out this response from MS-MVP Malke Routh to a
similar question.

Good luck

Re: Icon Transparent Icons

Hello! Thank you for advice!

I had already tried these and the suggestions from other post - forgot
to mention in my first post - but they didnt help.

I think it must be some setting hidden really deep in windows!

Thank you! Any other suggestions folks?

Thank you!

Re: Icon Transparent Icons
Transparent Icons:

Start/Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance/Settings/Visual Effects/"Use
drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop"

Also:

Right click the desktop and select Arrange Icons by. Towards the bottom of
that list, uncheck "Lock web items on the desktop."

Desktop Text Color:

By default in XP, it can't be manually changed. The text changes on its own
from dark to light depending on the color of the background. It is based on
the Desktop color not the Wallpaper. The combo is whether or not you are
using a Wallpaper and what the Desktop color is.

However...if you have Use drop shadows checked for the icon labels,
the text will always be white no matter what color the background is.
