Encrypt compact flash (system partition) or Secure compact flash
Hello,

I have XP Embedded running off a compact flash. I wish to prevent anyone
from having access to the contents (read or write) of that drive (i.e. flash
reader). Best solution would be for the compact flash to be locked to a
macaddress, so it can only be used by a specific system. This is a headless
system, so passwords cannot be entered.

If there are any means for this (encryption?) to be accomplished? 3rd-Party
software? Different compact flash?

Any help or ideas would really be appreciated.

thanks,

JohnG

It is going to be tricky since the OS needs to boot. You can use EWF or FBWF
to prevent read/writes ot the CF, but anyone who wants to take out the card
will find away. Some developers use a USB hash key to protect the
applications from being stollen.
