Spayware Popup
I will preface this withI am a computer Illiterate. I am getting a popup from
Microsoft that says spayware was detected and that I should download their
antispyware programs to stop it. My question is the popup is very annoying
and I already have antispyware programs I am using, how do I get the popup to
stop?

Re: Spayware Popup
The pop-up is NOT from Microsoft (despite what it may say or look like) and
the machine is already infected. Do NOT click on any of those links!!

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2

It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

It's bad stuff. It attempts to trick you into downloading whatever software
to infect your system. This malicious software will normally be installed
regardless of your choice (Yes/No, Cancel/Allow/Deny). I'd normally kill IE
(end task) when I see that.

Keep using yours and make sure it's up to date.

Don't go to that site.

Re: Spayware Popup
Correction on my last statement "don't go to that site". I just realized you
did not mention anything about browsing. I suppose your PC is already
infected if you see pop-ups when you're not browsing the internet.

No, it is definitely *not* from Microsoft.

The popup is from a spyware program (*not* an anti-spyware program).
Yes, you are infected, and the popup is a symptom of that infection.

Tell us the exact text of the popup for more help.

You have to admit though spayware is an intriguing concept.

Use Spybot Search And Destroy to get rid of it. It's free.
