Recovering files from secondary HD by USB

My old computer fried need to get files from it ,only have a laptop and a USB
External drive bay. I hooked the old XP Home HDD into the external pluged it
into the Laptop and it shows all the windows files but not My Documents or My
Music files. Any Help Appreciated.

Try taking ownership of the files. Take a look at these articles for more info:

Note: If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition on the laptop, you
must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account that has
Administrative rights to have access to the Security tab. To start in Safe Mode,
reboot your computer and start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything
displayed on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup Options menu
appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to select Safe Mode.
Hit Enter.

The problem was, when you entered the Documents and Settings folder then the
user name file there was no my documents folder there so I didn't get the
chance to get denied. I finally right clicked on the E: drive and shared the
e: drive and re-entered the drive and the file folder my document showed up
and was able to backup the data. Thanks for the post.
