CD has no sound....
(MS WinXP Home SP2; MS Office XP; OE 6; IE 6; Dell Dimension XPS T450MHz
Pentium III; 385MB RAM; AVG Free Version 7.5.503; spybot S&D; ad-aware;
cable modem; WordPerfect8; Lexmark Laser printer "Optra E310"; Windows Media
Player).
Hello, I'm sorry I just posted this in the wrong forum at "Windows
Inetexplorer". I hope this one is the correct one?
I have Windows Media Player. Today I tried to play a simple CD and there
was no sound. Thought it was a defctive CD so I tried another one and again
no sound. I tried 3 disks and the same thing. Would anyone know why and
how to fix?
Thanks ever so much! Adela

Which version of WMP?
Are you using analog or digital audio from the drive? Audio sound
needs to have the "small" audio cable connected between the CD / DVD
drive and sound card "CD-IN" audio port.

Re: CD has no sound....
Thank you so much, and I'll post in windowsmediaplayer.com which I didn't
know there was. Do you happen to have the link to place in my Outlook
Express newsgroups?

As to these questions ... I don't know. How can I find out? But I was
working 2 days ago....
Sorry to be so ignorant about tech things and thanks again for responding!

RE: CD has no sound....
Start here before doing anything drastic. Rightclick the Sound icon,
bottom righthand corner next to clock, and click Open Volume Control.
See if anything is Muted and the sliders are all the way up. If you do
not have a Volume icon next to clock, do this: Start>Control Panel>Sounds
and Audio>check "Place Volume icon in Taskbar>Apply>OK out.
BTW: Do you have any sounds at all when booting your PC, such as
system beeps?

Re: CD has no sound....
Thanks so much Byte. Under the Volume Control Column, the Balance and the
Volume are right in the middle and the Mute window is unchecked. Do you
think maybe there's something else wrong?
Oh... How stupid can I get!!! I think I'm supposed to turn on the speakers?
Yes, I just tried it and it works. I'm so sorry to have bothered you kind
people! And thanks ever so much to all of you! Adela
P.S. If spam doesn't kill me, the computer tech will finish me! LOL!

For what it's worth, some of the most rookie questions, and then
sudden realizations, brings out some of the best of us.
You stood up and admitted one of these simplicity's that we face in
daily life. You are a true trooper and you deserve a smiley sticker.
(general then places a fun smiley sticker on your shoulder for
bravery)!!!
