internet explorer 7.0

It takes 3 or 4 attempts to open internet explorer, on most occasions.
It seems this happens often after the computer has been is stand-by, for
several hours. Windows XP- SP2

Perhaps the network adapter has been powered down by the operating
system to reduce power consumption. In Device Manager, open the Network
adapter properties, and on the Power Management tab, uncheck the box for
"Allow the computer to turn off......"
