Logictech Mouse Erratic
I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with XP SP2 and I use to use a Microsoft
mouse with cord and had no problems. Eventually, I needed a new mouse
because the pads underneath had become too worn. I decided to try a
cordless mouse and bought a Logitech MX610, since using it though I've
noticed that it isn't as smooth as my old Microsoft mouse. I've tried
different settings but it's still moves erratically and sometimes it's
difficult to highlight things or to position it. I've reset it back to
it's defaults but that doesn't help either. Now I still have the
Microsoft mouse plugged in as a sort of backup and was wondering if
this is the problem and there's a conflict? Should I uninstall it and
pull it out once the computer is off?

I couldn't find anything in the Add/Remove programs for the PS2 mouse,
but
I did disconnect it. The Device Manager showed both previously and the
PS2
as Logitech compatiable along with the cordless Logitech. Now it only
shows the cordless Logitech. It's somewhat better but still kind of
jumpy
and not as smooth as the PS2.

Re: Logictech Mouse Erratic
I recommend that you contact Logitech at their website - they will issue
a case number to your problem and will work with you. I have contacted
them a few times in the past and their support is very good and they get
back to you within a day at the most.
Back to your problem, is your new mouse a laser? If so, the surface upon
which the mouse travels can have an effect on performance of a laser
mouse. Try the mouse on a flat non-reflective surface. Any glass-like or
smooth and shiny surface can cause your problem.
Good luck and post back with results, if you can.

Yes, it is a laser and I think you fixed the problem! I have been
using a
mouse pad but I just tried using the mouse without it and it's very
smooth
just like the old mouse. I wish all computer problems were this easy
to
fix!
Many Thanks,
Robert

I had saved my old Dell mouse pad and decided to tried it and see if
it
would do the same thing as the pad I had been using. It works great!
You have no idea of the amount of change its made. Instead of bumping
and skipping across the screen and taking forever to copy/paste it,
all
works fine now

Robert,
You're welcome and glad you have it working well. Thanks for the
feedback too.
