Seriuos boot time error
Everytime before the welcome screen i get a screen with a similar background
in which the following is written:-

smrgdf not found.Skipping AUTOCHECK.

This stays for some 4-5 seconds and then goes. This all started after i
compacted the registry using iolo System Mechanic 7.5 and then uninstalled
it.Even system
restore is not working. What can I do.Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks
in advance.

Re: Seriuos boot time error
Uninstalling System Mechanic wasn't a good idea. Most of these Registry
tools make backups of changes made. When ( & likely ) they break XP
you can use the backup tool to recover or back out the changes. You're
in a tough situation with few options. One thing you might do is see if the
uninstall of Registry Mechanic left any components ( Backups ) in the folder
tree for Registry Mechanic. If so reinstalling the app might allow you to
use
the pre-existing backup to recover your Registry.

Re: Seriuos boot time error
Hi, I have the exact problem as Darshan has. It seemed as though System
Mechanic was not compatible with my Vista system, so I uninstalled it-dumb
move. Now when Windows starts it skips autocheck because it is missing file
smrgdf. I looked for backups of Registry Mechanic and System Mechanic and
there is no trace of anything. Anything else anybody can recommend to recover
this file smrgdf and restore autocheck at startup? Thanks!

RE: Seriuos boot time error
Hi, I have been doing some checking around and I was wondering if my only
real option is to reinstall vista ultimate. I would appreciate any input if
this would be a good move or not. Thanks!
