The modem probably adds or assigns its own port so I doubt that's the
problem.
- Try the modem in a different slot.
- Try physically removing the sound card and/or NIC if possible, reboot
and see if the modem works. If so, there's a conflict between the two
devices. There's not always a notice in Device Manager.
- Try a hardware ng where the regulars have seen this before.
