XP - Wireless Networks

I am using XP Pro and have no issues connecting to wireless networks that
broadcast their SSID.

However, at home, I hid my SSID. The moment I did that, I find that my
network connection drops quite regularly. The only way to get it back is to
broadcast SSID, connect, then rehide SSID again.

As a test, I used a usb wireless card and used the third party software that
came with it. Since using it, my connection has never dropped.

Is there any way to improve the stability of the XP software to connect to
wireless networks that don't broadcast SSID. I would prefer to use that
then this third party software.

Did you install the Wireless Client Update?
