AHCI and Raid

hi!
this is my pc configuration:
- motherboard: asus p5e3 deluxe
- hd1: raptor 72gb
- hd2: segate 500gb 32mb
- hd3: segate 500gb 32mb

All hd are on the same sata controller.

Xp is installed on hd1 in ahci mode, the other hd2 & hd3 have only data and
no raid.

I'd like now to convert my configurazion in raid, using hd2 and hd3 in raid1
and leaving hd1 where the system is installed in ahci mode.

is this possible or i have to reinstall the system on hd1 with no ahci?

I set the mainboard sata controller in raid, i do not configure any raid0 or
1, the system started then i get a blue screen...

my english is not so good so i hope someone understand which is the problem,

This is exactly the same that I did it in this morning. I used RAID in
BIOS and tried to install Windows XP. An F6 disk was needed and
everything went fine. I tried to install Windows Vista, inserted driver
disk and was also fine. But I got no luck when I tried to install
Ubuntu, it didn't recognise that I had RAID because the RAID feature in
the motherboard is software-based and Linux controls the hardwares
directly. (Windows reads HDs through BIOS) I gave up and use md.
As I wrote above, change the BIOS setting to RAID, install Windows XP
(use an F6 disk). If you don't have any floppy drive, nlite the RAID
driver into the XP CD and install from the CD.
If you don't want to use the poorly-written RAID BIOS on the board,
install a server edition of Windows 2003 and make RAID-1 using Disk
Management.

Extract from reply "nlite the RAID driver into the XP CD".
Please explain what that means and how to do it, with a link if appropriate.

Search for nlite, download and install it.
Copy the contents of XP CD to a folder, run nlite to insert the RAID
driver, burn back to a new CD and install from the new CD.
