no monitor after resume from standby

I've had a problem where the monitor stays in standby mode when I resume the
computer using XP Pro SP2. I've tried two different video cards. The only
way to get the system back is to pull the power cord.
I've gone so far as to remove the video card and put it into a different
system and it works fine. When I put it back into the failed system it still
fails. Once I pull the power cord wait 5 seconds and put the cord back in
the system it boots up fine.

Any itdeas whats going on?

Did you try plugging the monitor into the other system to see if it
behaved the same?
