Re: XP SP2 to SP3 Install Issue
Hi
I tried the following steps.
1) disabled "windows Firewall" & "Antivirus software" Services & failed.
2) Cleared the temp files & failed.
3) SP2 un-install & Re-installed. (Its OK)
4) Checked in the eventvwr, any hardware issue preventing to install (like
HDD) & failed.
Tried all possibilities to install SP3 & but failed. Help me out to install
SP3 without
reinstall OS.

NEVER connect the machine to the internet without a firewall! If you don't
have a third-party firewall installed, never disable the Windows Firewall.

What "Antivirus software" is installed (e.g., Norton AntiVirus 2008; AVG
Free 8.0)?

The above notwithstanding, see this KB article:

You cannot install some updates or programs:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

If the problem persists:

=> The computer might be infected with hijackware (e.g.,
Vundo/ZLOB/SDBot-variant, all protected by a rootkit).

=> Avail yourself of the free WinXP SP3 support.

Re: XP SP2 to SP3 Install Issue
The software firewall of Trend micro Client / Server security is disable
first & tried.
Next Windows firewall service Disabled & tried.
FYI, No internet connection is available in any of the client machines.
Only one machine is giving so much of trouble to install out of 30 client
machines.

Re: XP SP2 to SP3 Install Issue
Judging from similar posts here in the past month or so, the behavior may be
due to a Vundo-ZLOB-SDBot infection, all of which is protected by a rootkit.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software

Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
