USB devices attached hang boot (sent before finished)
When are USB hard drive (data only), and printer are attached, the system
will not boot. Unplug and system takes off.
Reattach and all is well.
Thought boot priority was culprit, but does not matter id CD-ROM or IDE is
set.
Thnking it has something to do with USB legacy setting, but need
confirmation.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

Is this an Intel-based system? How old is the computer? Did you
install the Intel Chipset Driver software yet?

Re: USB devices attached hang boot (sent before finished)
It is
3.75 years old
Did not. Changed out the hard drive and used Western Digitals utility to
transfer the image from the old drive.
System stops responding at boot if external drive and printer are plugged
in. Remove and things move on.

Ok. I had remedied a somewhat similar problem like this recently by
installing the Intel chipset drivers. Go grab the Intel chipset here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...4&submit=Go%21
Grab the one prefaced by "INF Update Utility - Zip Format (2231KB)"
Unzip, run the installer, and see if it installs some chipset updates
for you. Reboot afterwards and try your USB stuff again. Let me know
if it helped you.

I have had this problem many times. To correct I installed a power
supply with a highre rating.

Re: USB devices attached hang boot (sent before finished)
Installed, saw that there were some updates, but no change.
We have confirmed that when the HP PSC 2210 printer is attached, it hangs at
boot. The external hard drive has no bearing on the boot process.
Thoughts on the printer?

Re: USB devices attached hang boot (sent before finished)
Delete the printer and driver. Then, install the driver. (You have CD?) Do
not attach printer till told to do so.

Hard to say, there are a number of contributing factors. Try adding
another USB2 card and connecting the printer to that. It's not that
unusual for attached USB devices, hard disks or printers, to cause boot
problems. I've mostly seen this happen on Dell systems.

Re: USB devices attached hang boot (sent before finished)
Also, try another port for the printer.

The usual suspects would be to see if there's any newer driver but i
looks like 2004 is as new as it gets for that model. Is the firmware
up to date on it?
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=228&lang=e n
The update specifically cites a USB boot-up issue. Try the update and
see what happens.
