DVI and VGA
Using Windows XP (latest updates), Dell Latitude D820 and View Sonic monitor…
I have the VGA on the monitor connected to a KVM switch to view two
different computers, this has always worked fine.

The Dell laptop docking station has a DVI (in addition to VGA) and the View
Sonic monitor has a DVI (in addition to a VGA). So, I thought if I hooked up
the DVI, and left the VGA hooked up, it would simply be a matter of using the
monitor's on screen input selector to choose Analog (vga) or Digital (dvi).
However, when ever I choose DVI, it displays analog, as if there is nothing
coming across on the DVI cable.

Do you have to do something on the computer to have it display over the
DVI?

Anybody know what the problem might be?

Thanks
Bob

And what happens if you just hook up the DVI and don't hook up the VGA?

Most graphic cards auto detect what is connected to them. Some (but not
all) will auto set to VGA whenever one is connected even if a DVI is also
connected.
