New Adobe Shockwave adds Norton as a "Piggy-Back" application

Just a warning to users who update their Adobe Shockwave. Symantec
has a new agreement to piggy-back their software into the download.

From Adobe's website:

How is Norton Security Scan from Symantec connected to Shockwave Player?
As part of a recent distribution agreement with Symantec,
Adobe will offer its customers the option to install the free
Norton Security Scan software as part of the Shockwave Player
installation process. Only customers who accept the Norton Security
Scan offer will download the Norton Security Scan software.
Those who decline the offer will download and install only Shockwave
Player. Norton Security Scan is only offered to users who have either
already downloaded the Google Toolbar or who are not eligible to
receive the Google Toolbar offer

So be careful or you'll get more than just Shockwave Player. It wasn't
enough to piggy-back Google Toolbar, now you've got another unrelated
app to dodge.

Great. Nothing like turning people off to Security updates by including
BLOATWARE and GARBAGE. How do they get away with this behavior ?
Apple had an update for Quicktime that included Safari. Turns out this
version of Safari had Critical Sec vulnerabilities. At least they've
changed that behavior but not until a huge stink was raised.

Shockwave Security updates include the Google Toolbar, checked to
install by Default, and now they include Symantec dreck, too.
Sun's JRE Sec updates includes Google Toolbar and an opt in for Open Office.
Imagine the stink that would be raised if MS included crap with their
Security updates.

No Security updates should include anything but the update. Period.

Humm, not surprised, Adobe is evolving into as bad a company as Symantec
as far as software products are concerned.

Kind of like when the Apple Updater started including Safari and slipped
it to all unaware iTunes/Quicktime users...
