My Documents, Music, Pictures, etc, keep closing after a few secon

Everytime i click on the Windows folders such as My Documents, My Music, My
Pictures or even the control panel the screen returns to the desktop after
about 5 seconds.
All of my desktop icons and the taskbar and mouse pointer also disappear, so
i have to restart. I have done a virus scan and found nothing, also managed a
disk check (just about, before screen returned to desktop again!)
Also all of my system restore points have disappeared so i can't go back to
before the problem started.
Can anyone help, before i have to do a system recovery and lose everything
again.
I have only just got my pc back to what it was after service pack 3 made me
lose everything, due to the AMD processor.

Thanks Kelly, although in the end i managed to fix the problem with
Microsofts latest malicious software removal tool. It appears i had a Trojan
in my system folder.
