Setup Profile without user's password
Hello,
Currently when I have to build a new laptop for an employee I call
them up and get their domain username and password so that I can sign
on to the laptop and confure it for them. I setup Outlook client,
copy over their my documents folder, favorites, install and configure
additional applications, etc....

My company is going to implement new security guidelines and one of
them is that employees can not give out their passwords. Also we're
not allowed to ask employess for their passwords. Is their a way to
setup a users profile without signing on to the machine with their
accounts. Most of our users are remote so using roaming profiles
doesn't work.

Thanks,

Joe

You could "reset" their password, do the setup, and then tell them what
it was reset to.

And that would not solve the issue with the new guidelines.

Hi Joe,

I believe if you configure a profile and then change the user account to
require the user to change the password on next login (do that on the
server), it will update the password for Outlook. At worst they'll have
to enter the new password once for Outlook. But you'll be able to
configure it properly and then they will select a password of their own
choosing without IT support having it.

Re: Setup Profile without user's password
The rule being put in place that we can't ask them for their passwords
is so that only the user knows their password. If I reset it we still
run into the problem. Also if I reset it they won't be able to logon
with their existing machines unless we give them the password.

Thanks,
Joe

There is an option to "change password on next login" in the User
Account on the server. So after you're done with the profile config,
the user will login and be required at that time to change it.
