Re: Product key replacement
Buy a brand new, boxed, retail version of WinXP.

Re: Product key replacement
Would that be the cheapest route? Would a replacement product key cost just
as much?

If your key is genuine and has not been used for a machine other than for
your own then you need to find a matching CD, e.g. Windows XP
Home/Professional, Retail/OEM edition. You can copy a friend's CD. It is not
possible to tell from the key what product it refers to. After resolving
this issue, pay attention to the big-letter note on the CD case: "Do not
lose this key". Since a new licence costs a lot of money, you'd be wise to
register it (together with all other licences) in a spreadsheet which you
print out. This would save you a lot of grief.

Re: Product key replacement
If the version of XP is a retail version you can contact Microsoft to see if
they can help . Take this link and scroll down to the section on Replacement
Product Keys http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;en-us;326246

However if your version is an OEM version then Microsoft cannot help you as
OEM versions are the responsibility of the manufacturer of the hardware it
came with.

Want to run an MS OS? Then yes, do the retail version. Easy as pie.
