cordless mouse and problems after Service Pack 3
I installed Service Pack 3 yesterday, and now my cordless mouse creates a
complete shutdown. After the installation, at startup, I got a blue screen.
I started in safe Mode that seemed to work, so starting up again in regular
mode gave me blue screen. By accident (or divine intervention) I unplugged
the mouse stick and started up and it went through. I plugged the stick back
in and immediately got the blue screen. Unplugged it, stated it, put in a
memory stick into the same USB port, no problem. plugged the mouse stick
back in - blue screen. SO- I removed the mouse driver and am working
without it. Every time I log back in, the system wants to reinstall the
driver. I'm afraid. My initial solution was by complete accident. What
could be the issue?

have you checked the mouse manufacturers site for an updated driver?

RE: cordless mouse and problems after Service Pack 3
Yes I did- It's a microsoft wireless optical mouse and I re downloaded the
driver. Plugged in the mouse and got the same response. Blue screen and a
message about addressing non-addressable memory. If I unplug the stick and
reboot, I can still use the computer but not with the mouse. I plugged a
memory stick into the USB port and it works fine. I plugged the mouse into
my mac book and it works fine. I know it has something to do with Service
Pack 3. Everything was fine until I downloaded that.

Did you follow the recommendations to do prior to installing SP3?
One other step I would do is to deactivate my anti-virus / anti
spyware software (or even remove it) since these can potentially block
the correct updating of core files. These may see the SP3 update as a
virus / spyware.

Same thing happened to me. TWO microsoft mouses and the same error,
too. Right after service pack three. I did a lot of work to make 3
work on my HP AMD (!) machine. I uninstalled and reinstalled some USB
ports as well - they would randomly disconnect. There are several
threads about this on technet, too. Let me know if anyone finds a
resolution for this.
