Laptop starting problem

Hi All
My problem is my Fujitsu Siemens V1000 laptop refuses to start. I had a
broken LCD screen so I did not use the computer for some time. When I
switch
it on the fan runs, then computer turns off almost immediately. Any ideas
please

Contact Fujitsu Siemens about the repair of your broken laptop. Windows
XP can't fix it.

Well that was a stupid answer. There may be more knowledgeable people than
you using this site and may know of an answer. So I suggest do not answer
questions just for the sake of it.
I understand it is not a XP problem but there is the chance someone has an
idea where I start looking to be able to fix the problem.
I do have some understanding of the repair of computers
I have already tried Fuitsu Siemens and they want me to send the computer
to them and there is a charge even if they cannot repair it. Which at this
stage I am not prepared to do.

If the processor is overheating, the computer may use that as a reason to
shut off. That is caused by a signal called THERMTRIP on some processors.

There may be other reasons for the BIOS to shut the computer off,
such as not detecting an RPM signal from a cooling fan. Other than
that, I don't know of any other reasons why the BIOS would do
something like that.

In terms of electrical loading, I also don't know how a broken LCD
panel would respond. As far as I know, there is no feedback path
from the panel to the main part of the laptop, so the laptop doesn't
know the panel is broken. Some panels have more than just the LCD
screen, and may have a web camera or the radio antenna for the WiFi,
so those are examples of other subsystems that can be housed in the
panel.

It wasn't the answer that is stupid, especially considering the
information you provided about the condition of the unit. So, have you
even downloaded a manual for this unit? Have you gone through the faq at
the Siemens site yet? Basically you have an abused laptop with a broken
screen, that now won't even power on. Could be many things. battery,
power supply, shorted wires, heatsink ..........

Hi Paul
Think you maybe on the right lines have striped the thing down cleaned the
whole thing out. Reset the cpu and looks like we have lift off. Only thing
now it doesnt recognise the hdd but we will get over that no doubt.
