BIOS Setup
Ok, I have everything installed and I'm about to fire up the system. I'm
going to have to go into BIOS and choose SATA, right? The operating system is
Windows XP Pro, bought from a PC vendor 2 years ago.
Ok, I'm on a section from BIOS setup. It's talking about advanced features
on BIOS. It says something about BIOS upgrade. To upgrade the BIOS, use
either the GIGABYTE Q-Flash or @BIOS ultility.
Is this necessary to do? Do I need to upgrade the BIOS?
Can't I just go into BIOS during setup and choose SATA drive?
Also, can't I upgrade the BIOS later?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,attilathehun1

Don't upgrade the bios.
You gave us no info on the pc so I'll be general.
I have two settings, one determines the order of the drives. I can have
4 IDE and 2 SATA. So I have to pick a drive order. This just
determines Drive 0, 1,2,3,4, etc in disk manager.
Then I have to determine boot order. Floppy, CD, HD (and what hd).

Sata never comes into it. If I pick a SATA drive then I guess I around
the barn picked SATA.

Check the document(s) for BIOS info and settings, if any were provided when
you purchased the PC and/or components. Without more information I can only
venture to say that the BIOS drive type setting may be like most others
now-a-days, it can be set to treat the SATA drive as if it were a PATA.

Gigabyte uses an Award bios. The motherboard is provided with a CD for
drivers, and, contains a motherboard manual in acrobat form. In that manual
is a detailed description of everything in the bios setup.

Most likely, XP will have no problem with the current bios allocation of
resources, and, general hardware recognition. You may need to inject the
SATA driver during XP installation at the F6 prompt.

Re: BIOS Setup
What media do I use or what way do I use to inject the SATA driver during XP
installation at F6 prompt?
This would be very helpful and I'd be greatful for an answer that's in
detail.
Thanks, attilathehun1

most likely the cd-rom the driver is on. But if you do dare
to update the bios, KEEP A COPY OF THE OLD BIOS on a floppy.
If it fails the update you'd be out of LUCK, and crying wont
help you at all.

Details *HOW TO UPDATE* THE BIOS YOU GET ON THE WEBSITE OF
THE MOTHERBOARD. This is the same place you *DOWNLOADED* the
new bios.

Betting he has a PC with a dual bios chips. If so, he can always recover
from the other chip if the update fails, or, is unsatisfied with it. At any
rate, how to update, there's 2 methods, is in the motherboard manual that's
on the CD that comes with the motherboard. Recovery method is also
mentioned as well.

Speculation on a product or material that is
an obvious need, is not speculation per se
as there is no risk to the speculator.
Common were those selling food and other
supplies in the gold rush days.
In this case, its oil and its everyone who
bites the bullet. And most everyone has no gold
to be made, just business as usual.
