DVD RW turns into CD Rom Drive!
I have an internal Phillips DVD RW and an External (ieee1394) Sony DVD RW
drive. On an XP pro Machine
Both show up fine in Windows explorer and properties fine.
Both suddenly switch to CD-Rom drives (with same drive letter) as soon as I
put a DVD (any sort) into the drive and then won't allow me to record.

Don't think I've changed much (SP1 etc) in a couple of years!
Any ideas appreciated

Thanks

Update your SP1 level.

You don't give too much detail, but are you aware that Windows XP does not
support writing to DVD discs? At least not out of the box it doesn't. You
need to add a third party writing utility to write to blank DVDs. The drive
icon and description changing to CD-ROM instead of DVD is a known issue.
