Motherboard Replacement in a Gateway 500X retail desktop and XPH S
Hi,

I have a Gateway 500X retail desktop that has a non-operational motherboard.
Do I have to get the exact same motherboard(model number) to replace it or
can I get another Gateway/emachine motherboard with a different model number,
and be able to re-install/activate Xp?

Thanks for any help...

In order to use the version of XP that came with your computer, you would
need to replace the motherboard with the exact model it came with. If
Gateway no longer makes the motherboard and/or won't support that machine,
you'll need to purchase a retail copy of XP. Possibly you can still find
one at NewEgg or Amazon. The alternative would be to use a generic OEM
install disk and use the Product Key on your COA sticker. You will probably
have to call in for activation. Obviously if you don't have a generic OEM
install disk you would need to buy one and at that point you'd be better
off buying a retail version.

Why ask HERE? What mainboard you choose is personal preference.
Choose whatever you want

Ask elsewhere

Congratulations. You just fragmented your own thread. Next time
reply to the original thread, don't start a new one.

I see you're off your medication again. I'm not the OP and it isn't "my
thread".

Fsck off.

It's at least six years old, along with the memory, hard drive, CD-ROM drive(s) and
power supply. In addition, it's an eMachine. Do yourself a favor and don't waste
your money on it.

I sell used computers that are newer than yours for around $200, including monitor.

Don't throw good money after bad....

Re: Motherboard Replacement in a Gateway 500X retail desktop and X
Yes- Bill I did find it on ebay and waiting on it to come in. Homer S. thanks
for your suggestions, and Edric- I'm not sure what your issue is, but this is
an open forum and I asked a legitimate question regarding XP reactivation. At
anytime I choose too, I will ask any question here I want. If you have a
problem with my question move on or "FO".... I really don't care to waste my
time reading replies from jerk offs that have nothing to do with what I
asked.
