External Monitor
Hello,

I would like to connect an external monitor to an Acer
Aspire 1690 notebook. It is not going well.
I only have a bootup picture to the point where XP has the progress bar with
the black screen. After that it goes to sleep, the external monitor, I mean.
It's doing this with all the monitors I tried. Acer, the company is totally
unhelpful.
I was thinking BIOS, or driver updates, but they don't have any. Does
anybody have a similar problem and found a solution for it? Any help would
be greatly appreciated.
It's not even for me but a friend of mine who has no patience for computers
and ready to shoot it.

Thank you.

RE: External Monitor
"They dont have any",maybe "they dont",but hardly think they made the
hardware inside the pc.Open device mgr,display adapter,R.click,properties,
see who the mfg is,probably intel.Close out device,go to intel or other mfg,
install the chipset utility for the boards chip-set & get drivers for
display...

Re: External Monitor
Thank you so much. Now why Acer could not tell me this I'll never
understand. I was able to install a better graphics driver, but the chipset
update utility seems way too complicated.
What can I do to update the bios?

Thank you.

As with all BIOS updates, you must check on the manufacturer's web
site (ACER) and find the available updates for the "exact" laptop
module, if they exist.

For external monitors, several laptops must be told, via the BIOS
settings, that the external monitor is connected and ready to be
used. Locate the laptop's manual and look for info on how to use the
external monitor connection.

Change the Display Settings to 640x480 then try it again.
